Professor Margaret Boyle

Assistant Professor of Romance Languages and Literature Margaret Boyle’s new book, Unruly Women: Performance, Penitence, and Punishment in Early Modern Spain, has received an honorable mention from the Society for the Study of Early Modern Women for best book on women and gender in 2014.

The prize committee praised Boyle’s book as a highly original study examining the relationship between public theaters and correctional institutions for women in early modern Spain. “Your carefully focused study made for fascinating reading and provided an important model for the use of historical sources in the analysis of literary texts,” the committee said.
